It’s really easy to look at the leaders of the design industry and think there is a certain about of luck to getting to that level. Admittedly, even I’ve had a bit of a mix of envy and wonder at times. However, and this month’s guests will attest, it’s usually more hard work than actual luck that gets you ahead. Sure, luck is a real thing, but luck needs to catch you hard at work, and that’s exactly what we try to inspire in this episode. Unanimously, my guests and I agree that “hustle” is a stupid word. Instead, hard work, good ol’ fashioned blood, sweat, and tears, and a dash of luck make for the perfect recipe for growth. In short, make your own luck, do what it takes, but try not to kill yourself in the process. Eli Altman has just written a book on how to run your studio. It’s fantastic.
