La Riojana takes inspiration from a small autonomous community in Spain known as La Rioja, known worldwide for its wines and vineyards. As such, this restaurant specializes in traditional Spanish food with a particular attention to its wines, as shown by its use of grape motifs throughout. The use of a viney script contrasted with an all caps monospaced sans serif evoke a sense of tradition and modernity colliding in a fresh way. The menu format, too, is dynamic, using different sized papers to create a lovely layering effect that hides the illustration of La Riojana until you flip it open.
