Half Vodka Fruit Soda isn’t a ‘real’ project. It’s a design exercise done by designer Hannah Ream, taking inspiration from a specific period of design and translating that onto a modern-day product, in this case, the ubiquitous canned cocktail. Just because it’s a design exercise and not a product we see on the shelves doesn’t downplay the success of Ream’s design, however. She looks at canned cocktails, notes how they all sort of look the same and tend to be designed to appeal to the feminine palette, and applies the methodologies of Charles and Ray Eames to come up with a gender-neutral solution that stands out in the category. The cans are sleek; no realistically rendered cornucopia of fruit here, just simple, flatly rendered slices of citrus is enough to get across what flavor you’ll find on each can.
