Sometimes there are restaurant concepts that defy explanation or description. Sal Curioso in Hong Kong is that type of place. We’ve discussed restaurants that feel like history museum visits before and Sal Curioso takes things to a completely new level. The inspiration behind this location, at least the story provided to Substance, is Sal Curioso is the ex-lover of a sister restaurant in the Sal Curioso family. He is an inventor, specializing in contraptions that cook, specifically cook animals found in the travels of his former lover. The restaurant creates a very unique mood with their mechanical inventions all over the place. The beauty in it all is that nothing is sloppily presented. There’s a classiness and curated quality to the presentations of invention and they look like what they should look like: decorations in the interior of a restaurant. However, they do much more and they capture the curious quality of the restaurant and its cuisine. Visitors may not understand the full back story but when they step inside Sal Curioso they’ll have plenty to capture their eye and their imagination. This is a great example of a restaurant going beyond the food. Special props for the incredible 3D display of books and science manuals on the wall.
