This video is quite amazing from beginning to end. It’s short, but poignant in how Mr. Beirut pinpoints Vignelli’s design and inspired approach. It goes further into a discussion of the true purpose of a logo. My favorite quote from this piece is this: “When you see this [logo] we hope you associate it with some of things we’re going to be doing now, tomorrow and as long as our company endures this mark will endure to kind of capture your positive feelings about what we are doing.” That nails it on the head and it’s the hardest concept to understand by many clients and designers alike.
Michael Bierut talks about his mentor Massimo Vignelli, how the internet has changed the way we do design work in the 20th century and what make a logo endure. thecreativeinfluence.net
