We think one of the most underrated places to find good design is at the grocery store. Sure, most products stacked in the aisles aren’t well designed, but every once in a while you find something grin-inducing hidden there. The last place you probably think to look is in the deli salads refrigerator. DesignRanch revisited the brand and packaging for Walker’s Fresh Foods, a product line of pre-made deli salads. Their old brand was, well, old; the brand type was a sentimental script, and each package had the tired old trope of a picnic blanket on it. Add a not-very-appetizing photo of the product on an already clear container and well… it wasn’t jumping out at the consumer, to say the least. DesignRanch gave Walker’s identity a huge facelift; enter a completely new, modern seal logo, a new type system featuring clean and legible san serifs, and an adorable new imagery style featuring quirky illustrations interacting with the ingredients before they’re turned into salad. One lovely detail not to miss; the cute and funny lines of copy on the bottom of each label. C’mon y’all. “I came, I slaw, I conquered”? Golden.
