If you’re looking for a bright and colorful place to escape to, look no further than Last Straw. This beautiful Austin-based bar was co-branded by well-known designers and visual artists Will Bryant and Cody Haltom. According to Bryant, the conceptual idea for the bar was the line ‘vacation by the hour’; meaning if you can’t find time for an extended vacation, you can at least get away from it all for an hour or two underneath a handpainted landscape with a cold drink in your hand. No part of this bar is ill-considered; each facet is thoughtfully placed / designed / made, from the color and material of a wall to the placement of a quirky framed photo. The pièce de résistance here is the ridiculously unforgettable mascot of Last Straw, a too-cool camel wearing sunglasses sipping a drink with an absurdly long straw. Rendered in neon behind the bar, the camel is who you want to be at Last Straw; chill, without a care in the world, enjoying your beverage.
