Hello all you restaurant branding enthusiasts. First, let me apologize for the lack of updates since early November of 2013. A lot had taken place that soaked up way too much of my time. During that time, however; I decided to pull the INVIGOR8 blog into its own brand and its own site, further distancing it from Vigor.
“But why distance it from Vigor?”
As some of you know, I have changed career paths and joined the uber-brilliant creative team at iris Worldwide. Vigor has declined all new work as a result of my commitments to the agency and its future. That doesn’t mean that this blog doesn’t still have a place in the webosphere, so over the holiday break I decided to rebrand it and push it out there under its new banner: Grits and Grids.
“What’s up with that name?”
When I started thinking of a poignant name I knew I had to have something catchy that both pulled influence from the food service/restaurant world as well as the creative industry. This was no easy task. After a lot of brainstorming I landed on Grits and Grids.
“Grits” because they’re creamy, tasty and irresistible, a lot like the design work for each of the awesome restaurants on the site. “Grids” because whether we’re leveraging them or breaking them, grids guide our design work. They also symbolize the engineering and science involved with creating identities that visually communicate a restaurant’s experience; it’s brand.
“Anything different coming besides more design work?”
Funny you should inquire. Why, yes, we will. We’re planning on featuring packaging work for food and consumer packaged goods (CPG). We’re also going to be featuring artists and agencies in a showcase meets interview style of coverage. You’ll be able to find these under “A + A.” I plan on writing more articles on restaurant branding, marketing and other advice for restauranteurs and creatives alike.
Beyond content changes, there will be new features added. The ability to share on your favorite social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest will be available by the end of the month. We’ll be switching to DISQUS to handle our commenting to make things easier for you readers. We’ll also be accepting submissions for your work. Finally, we will be launching advertising. I know it’s not ideal for our readership, but we do want to make sure the ads displayed are pertinent to you and not just money makers for us. Hey, we gotta make a buck somehow, right? If you’re interested in advertising your product or service, get in touch with us.
“Cool. What do I now?”
First, you should definitely signup for the Grits & Grids BITS email list. We’re going to be launching contest and other cool stuff via the email list, and it’s totally FREE to join. Maybe follow us via RSS? Other than that, keep on coming back as we and more and more creamy bits of restaurant branding inspiration.
Sincerely,
Joseph Szala
