It’s not often a designer that completes the branding for a restaurant is also one of the owners and managers. This is the case for Ryan Feerer, who returned to his hometown of Abilene, Texas and opened a restaurant, Abi-Haus, with two friends of his. The branding of the restaurant has a distinct Texas feel, utilizing found wood for signs, table tops and other decorative accents. Beyond the Texas feel, Feerer and his partners wanted a simple and attractive place for Abilene residents to come and eat good food. The whole kit of Abi-Haus has a relaxed and modern feel, but continues to provide the door-is-always-open feel they were looking for, once again a trait that is distinctly Texas. With a simple typeface, the building advertises exactly what Abi-Haus provides on the outside of the facade and traits like that help keep the restaurant’s simplicity. Simple icons and phrases (“good food ends in good talk”) build on the theme and the result is a place with personality and something Abilene, Texas can take pride in.
